Czestochowa is a city with population of nearly 250 000 inhabitants located 140 km north-west from Krakow. It would be a regular Polish city, not commonly known anywhere in the world if not one very special place – Pauline Monastery called „Jasna Gora”. It is most popular place of pilgrimage in Poland and also one of the most important sites for Catholics in whole Europe. Monastery houses famous icon of Virgin Mary known as the Black Madonna of Czestochowa. History of Monastery goes back to 14th century when in 1382 it was founded by Pauline monks. Visit in Monastery in Czestochowa can be combined with some other interesting sites during full day excursion from Krakow. We recommend adding to program such places like Ojcow National Park, ruins of Olsztyn Castle, ruins of Ogrodzieniec Castle (on so-called Eagles’ Nests Trail) or some interesting place from the Catholics’ point of view like Wadowice – birth place of Pope John Paul II or Kalwaria Zebrzydowska with its Calvary on the hill slope. If you are ready to get up early in the morning, we can also combine Czestochowa with sightseeing of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on one day tour from Krakow.
